I know this subject has been covered somewhere, I just cannot find it.
Would it be possible to put "easy to follow" instructions on how to submit a site on every page?
I cannot believe how many posts I see here where people are having difficulty finding how to submit their site.
Or is it an intelligence test that must be passed prior to submission? _________________ You never get what you want until you help others get what they want.
I understand that this seems to be an issue, there are enough posts from new members to confirm this. But I don't know how much more documentation would be useful.
- There is a SUBMIT button on the top right of every page that takes the user to where they submit their site. Either they click on the Sponsored button or the Basic button. That seems pretty simple, and instructions pop up after they click a button.
- Under the main topic "Site Submissions & Review" there is a top-of-list "sticky" that describes the entire submission process. If a person opens the forum, this topic is right there visible.
The big thing that was not clear to me, personally, is that from the submittal page it should tell the submitter that they can't submit to a ROOT category, they must navigate to a lower-level topic. This goofed me up the first time.
Can you suggest a change that would make people read the existing instructions before they try to submit a site? I think that's the biggest issue - lots of people simply don't look for or read the existing information first. And no amount of documentation or buttons will change that behaviour, I think _________________ my new company site - AlphaWeb Design & Promotion - for website design, web marketing, web conferences
Admin, I think what may be causing a problem is that the instructions on the main 'Submit Site' page are not clear enough. After the submitter has clicked on 'Basic Listing' I think we need a fairly large 'How to Submit' above the existing text:
Quote:
We are not accepting submissions in homepage as well as other top level categories (example - Arts, Business, Computers...). You can submit to 2nd or lower level categories only ( example - Arts>Animation ...)
I think we need to reword the above text, this is just a suggestion:
"Please Note: your site cannot be submitted from here, or from any of the top-level categories in the directory, e.g. Arts - Business - Computers etc. To submit your site: please return to the HEDir home page - http://www.hedir.com - click on 'Directory' and then click on the sub-category that is the most relevant to your site. When you have arrived at the correct category, please click on the 'Submit Site' link at the top right hand corner of the page. Thank you for your submission and we hope you enjoy your stay at HEDir".
Just a thought. _________________ Please help us to improve HEDir by reviewing some sites.
IMO your thought is much better than the information provided in the Site Submission page. So I have requested Anthony to change the information with yours.
I "walked through" how to submit a site and it is much clearer than before. At the top of each of the pages you are guided to there is a bold listing for the page. Perhaps a simple line like..."Now, find the subcategory you think is appropriate and click on it" or something along that line.
I know many will think it's redundant but...step by step will avoid even further confusion. _________________ You never get what you want until you help others get what they want.
