After reading the previous discussion on this topic which was in August, I understand more the meaning of the RubicCube in the logo.
I'm trying to visualize this logo with some kind of additional element or elements.
The best known logos like Opera browser, FireFox, even IE, have an element associated with the name. Opera's "O" , FireFox' - Fox on Fire, IE' "e" in blue, I guess it's a mini image of the universe...
Hedir has a cube, which has no association with the name. But since the name "Hedir" is two words, Human+Directory, then it would be interesting to have a logo comprised of these two elements.
So, "human" can be an image of One Person or a group of people(just an outline, a simplified cartoon character maybe...) and a Directory, a "Highest Quality directory"
The image of Directory may be in the form of the "printed book", an "open very thick book", with some yellow(or gold) outlines of the pages. Or, it can be in a closed shape...
an open book sticking out of the monitor, for example
The image of the person or group of people needs to be integrated into this image. But in a creative way, animated way maybe
It should NOT be without the Human touch, so to speak. Because it's part of the Name. Unless you're planning to change the name along the way.
Hi BoogieMan - I can see where you're coming from and you've obviously put some thought into this.
My own views are that a logo should be instantly recognisable. However, it doesn't reach this status until it's been seen many times. You could argue that the 'cube' is somewhat like the 'O' in Opera. The 'O', to my mind at least, means nothing in particular - but now I've seen it inumerable times - I recognise it. There's no suggestion of anything to do with the word 'Opera', in its normal usage. At the end of the day, it's just a large O, with a drop shadow.
I think the average person doesn't really give too much thought to what's 'behind' a logo, as long as he/she recognises it, and can 'place' the brand that's associated with it, then he or she is happy.
Anyone who's been around HEDir for a while will have the cube firmly imprinted in their sub-conscious mind. That's just my guess - but if it's true then the logo is doing its job.
Just my 2c's worth, but keep your ideas coming! _________________ Please help us to improve HEDir by reviewing some sites.
just expressing my thoughts, maybe the developers can find some ideas to benefit the Image of Hedir.
It doesn't mean that the logo needs to change. Maybe just to add or slightly change part of the logo, in order to connect to the name.
To compete with ODP is hard. It's David and Goliath.
BUT, if a logo creates a powerful image and radiate curiousity, then the logo can help tremendously in bringing ODP down to downtown.
You know, a little here...a little there...every creative step counts.
Yet another idea: instead of dealing with the logo(I'm starting to like the Cube ).. maybe to slightly change the Name.
"Human edited directory" sounds almost like ODP' slogan.
Maybe to add some "Quality, Creativity, Uniqueness" elements...UCQ..or something like that. To add letters representing these words..? _________________ Please visit my website and post your opinion/vote
