I have put a para in the submission form, explaining in brief, how reviewing other sites can help a submitter. But so far i have not seen any improvement in the review numbers. Maybe i need to elaborate more on the submission form itself.
I'm sorry to be so dense, but I completely missed when it changed that submitters were not required to review sites for theirs to be included.
They're still required to review sites for inclusion. Problem was: they didn't know! Now it's explained during submission. Let's wait and see if this helps in any way.
That'll be interesting to see. I get the feeling that it's already having an effect, there seem to be a few more reviewers about. _________________ Matt

From submission form: We have 1000s of sites in que waiting for review and approval. If you do not want to wait for all these submissions to get cleared, then please review some other sites in our submission forum. Reviewing other sites will get you hedir points which will move your site up in the waiting list. Besides you will get valuable feedbacks for your site by hedir community members. To review other sites, fill in your site details below, submit, then go to the Review Forum.
If I'm coming in for the first time, I don't get from this blurb that there is a requirement to review 10 sites before my site can be considered, and I guess the idea that the sites must be reviewed first is no longer in play.
It seems that way. I think there is a constant migration on this problem along lots of different planes. _________________ Matt

Well, time marches on, new sites are submitted, and new submitters aren't reviewing. Do we just keep pretending that the Emporer has new clothes? Is something happening behind the scenes? Clearly the status quo is not getting sites into the directory.
baggeroli, we need more time to decide whether it should be made mandatory for a submitter to review a certain no of sites before his/her site is reviewed. I do not want to rush things this time. Let us wait for some more opinions on this.
Meantime, i am trying out some simple changes like putting a note for submitter in the topic thread, highlighting review list on the right menu...
In short, now i would like to try out with small modifications, rather than going for huge changes (we all have seen how it creates confusion). Let us wait and see how it works out. _________________ Evolution is always better than revolution. My attempt at Blogging!
This thread points out my first concern when I saw the process for review.. It certainly looks like a problem that other peer review directories suffer from.. Too many submissions and not enough reviewers.. I signed up today thanks to ADAM, and have reviewed 6 or 7 sites already without even thinking about listing mine for review, but then I'm old and little things get away fro me from time to time..
There seems to be a need to at the very least break down the sheer number of sites to review in just one forum.. I haven't scanned the rest of the site, so I'm going to assume that I'm jsut repeating someone else's suggestion, but why isn't there a seperate forum heading for each major category??
I'll shut up now and go look at the rest of the threads and see what else is being discussed..
What do we do about the thousands of November 24th submitters who haven't reviewed a single site?
* mail them and delete after a week
* leave a message in their thread explaining they have to review sites (they'll get an e-mail automatically)
* reject them en masse
I've given my opinion over and over, but I would suggest a combination of all of the above. Submitters should be reminded that they have to submit (just in case they missed the mandatory part), and maybe the timeline for submission should be reduced from 30 days (it is still 30 days, right?).
If the submitters do not review any other sites within 2 weeks (or even 1?) their submissions should be rejected outright.
I have also give my opinion numerous times on what a big mistake it was to include all of the historical submissions. I completely agree with Francesco -- they should ALL be cleared out.
I still see a lot of talk from people suggesting that we implement a review requirement PRIOR to allowing any submissions. Again, if you were here in October/November, you would have seen that this simply won't work. People like reciprocation. They want to see their site being approved while they are reviewing others.
