I do get around even when I should be at home.. I think I like what I see here.. I can also see it getting WAY out of control very quickly.. But what do I know?? :p
So, I'm back.. Figured I'd make a minor catch up post.. Some of you knew that we had had a death in the family.. Unfortunately it became a bit more than that.. From January 4th through February 17th we've had 7 funerals.. Yup, you read that right, 7 funerals in 7 weeks..
Not all were family, but all hit close to home, from my next door neighbor (42 year old in a construction accident) to father-in-law and grandfather to cousins and friends.. Trust me, it's not a great way to start a new year.. I'm just now getting my head back into work and have found myself very far behind in everything..
I am slowly getting back into my side projects like hedir, but I've also cut quite a few of them out.. WPW being one.. I made my last public post there for the foreseeable future.. Anyway, just thought I'd share a bit, it seems to help in some way to talk about it.. Now it's time to get back to work..

Thanks guys, and Adam, you have my sympathies.. No one gets out of life alive, but it still sucks when it ends.. There always seems like there is still so much to do..
Yeah, I have just finally developed enough of a distaste for ge that I just can't even read the things there any more.. I know that Mike likes th econtroversy and the posts it generates, but there has to be a line somewhere.. And that last bit with that poor girl was just the final straw.. And congrats on the new client.. They are like gold these days..
Right now my web company (I don't do mych day to day there anymore) is trying to buy up a web company in Utah.. But the seller, who suggested that we buy him, has been slow to respond to our requests.. We may pass on it after all..
yes, I know what you mean about wpw. I'm figuring that the "drama king" will stay there for awhile until he finally gets himself booted. I have pretty much stopped posting there since our long lived meta description test has finally died.

If you mean Phil Craven as the "drama king", I'd agree. I'm getting tired of his unique brand of BS as well. I'm also getting even more tired of the rat pack black hat mentality of those who he chooses to associate with.
Not sure what you were referring to by "that poor girl", Steve. Could you post the thread link? I haven't been paying much attention there lately.

We can all be drama queens at times.. But I have noticed that parts of the internet community are worse than others.. Especially areas that are hard to put an acurate metric on.. SEO being a prime example, how do you 'prove' who is better over the laong haul for their clients??
Personally, I have no issues at all with the so called 'black hats'.. It's simply another business choice.. Dave Nyland said it best a couple weeks ago, he built a site, Google chose to crawl it and try to index it.. The fact that Google is not intelligent enough to seperate sites based on content and usefulness is not his problem.. He never asked them to come to his site, in fact, it's pretty hard to make them stay away..
And you have to wonder just how serious Google is about those things when they make so much money off of adsense running on those sites..
As for the different groups pissing in each other's sandboxes, it's just more of the same I guess.. On his own board Phil plays very nicely.. But when people like GE open their mouths and spew nonsense it's pretty hard not to jump all over him.. I especially liked how GE threatened legal action (subtle as it was) when I placed a site higher in the SERPs for his chosen keyphrases in just four days.. After that I quit listening to anything he had to say.
