How does google treat your choice of keywords......?
EG.
"widget" to "widgets"
Google will pick up both, but does that mean targetting the singular will always attach the plural to the results???? _________________ Web Development Cape Town
Plural is in more than most cases the better choice.
For a search term such as tools
If your categories were on your homepage then the term tools has the potential to be attached to one of your categories in the on-page text.
Such as..(Note: bold showing how the search engine will see it)
search for power tool and get power tools
search for power tools and get power tools
search for Makita power tools and get Makita power tools
search for Makita power tool and get Makita power tools
This is the short explanation
I'll just add one more thing that is sort of on the same topic
Google has a good habit of using some words you search for and giving more than one version of it. In a search for supply the results will show both supply and supplies. They are equal in value. One is not worth more than the other IMO. In this regard you will not have to try to optimize for both versions.
In my limited experience, Google often, but not always, gives similar results for singular and plural. I think it does depend somewhat on the individual keywords.
