Is there a oppurtunity here for hedir to attract the editors leaving dmoz ?

Very Happy

I beg to differ: Why should we ask them over?

If they are active editors over there, chances are they cannot afford the committement over here. Likewise if they are not active over there, what makes them more active over here?

The culture over at dmoz is much more different then it is here. Over here, all approved site is clearly for us to see. The process and all. What I really like here is that the submitter have a say and opportunity in correcting and improving the submitted website. Over at dmoz, the editor has the final say. And the meta has even a bigger say. If your site is out, and the editor dun feel like telling you about it, there is nuts you can do.

I have equal respect for both system and both has its pros and cons.

I guess hedir should keep things as it is and use word of mouth to build itself up. (I am lost at times to refer hedir as he or she?), both in terms of links and community. Last thing I want to see if for some roguish dmoz editor to be here and "throw" their weight around.

DMOZ is still the big one and holds a lot of respect in many quarters. The decline is due to attachment to same set of principles . Any online venture needs to evolve with time.

lakhya, thank you for saying what all of us are thinking: the few people left at DMOZ are the ones who haven't evolved their concepts or thinking, and it shows in both their site and the attitudes of those who operate it.

Quite frankly, I don't think we should be trying to recruit any former DMOZ editors just because they did it once before. Let them come and earn their spots, like the rest of us had to.
