I would like to optimize one of my site page, which is related with a geographic location. I will follow all those rules that seem to be honest and ethical for search engine optimization. However, after preparing the content of that page I have found area name is repeated so many times as the page is describing about all the specialty of that area and also mentioning all the events held last year on that area and many more. I cannot avoid using the area name in every context. Ex: First International conference on……..in……../ I cannot avoid writing the name of the place.

As the keyword is repeated so many times (in context), so will this be disregarded by the search engine?

Hi, Sylviadecoster

All i can say is you have to play with the content. Sometimes it is good and sometimes bad.

For your content you can use related words.

You didn't post the page so we can only guess, but, Msn has a much higher tolerance than Google. So you might get rewarded by MSN and not show up well for Google.

That's not always a bad thing. If you have enough content on your site you can optimize different pages for specific engines.

As a rule of thumb your main keyword should not show up more than 15 times on the homepage. Some people say 20 and others lean towards 12.

One of my sites which is in the top position at all major search engines including google and has been for 3 years uses my main keyword 11 times.
Another on of my top rated sites uses it 16.
One of my sites which had an occurence of the keyword 35+ times on the homepage wasnt even listed in google. When I cut it down to 15 it was listed within a week.

As far as on page content I usually stick to a percentage factor rather than a word count in most cases.
I use 5% to 6% of the on-page text. That is understanding that the page would actually have to have content.
I do not include title or metatags in percentages though.
Check out http://www.keyworddensity.com as general idea. I wont say its 100%.
There are some things that just arn't meant to be used in percentages.
This would be a very long post to explain every little thing about it.

I tend to be the same as GJ.

Also, if you're focusing on a keyword, you're not likely to ever get it no matter how much on-the-page optimization you do, even with MSN's algorithm being what it is (as Dwayne pointed out, they tend to focus more on what goes on the page than the other two do, although Yahoo!'s gotten more that way too.)

If you're focusing on a keyphrase, then that will be a lot easier to attain, and likely provide you with a lot more targeted traffic (which is something the majority of SEO-types miss completely...most websites aren't geared toward generic traffic.)

If you're not sure, a good tool to use is here:

http://www.seotoolset.com/cgi-bin/accountlogin400.cgi?loginname2=visit or&submit=Visitor+Login

Bruce changed his site around quite a bit, so I'm not sure what he's up to any more. Nevertheless, if you can find the Keyword Density Analyzer out of here, you're all set. It's a tool that indicates if you've overused (blue) or underused (red) keywords and phrases.

My main keyword is on my index page 34 times, and it's #1 in Google for over a year now. The keyword appears in navigation links and text and is a natural part of the flow of the page. If you're designing a site to make sense to humans, I don't see SE's penalizing for that.
