The submission form at http://www.hedir.com/add.php needs to use PHP "regular expressions" coding to check that urls are valid. If not valid then return a error to the submitter.

It would check for...

1. www. (if we don't accept subs then make them have to have www)

2. 2 to 4 characters length domain extensions (if it has no extension then tell them) I've seen a lot of these whereas there was no extension.

3. This could take care of submissions that are deep linking also. (error message would be "We only accept subs of a domain if they are needed to supply an english version of your site.please contact a mod/admin"
Or for that matter have it add text to the title of their sybmission marking it as "EnglishVer" or mark it somehow. Special attention would be set for it in the case that it is in fact just another deep-linking junk submission.

4. You could also use it to start keeping known submission out of the list.
If someone submits any domain with the words
*gambl* <--- works for gambling and gamble
*casino*
and so on...

5. Later after all this is working you might even add somethig to check that the url submitted is a working url and check that its http return call isn't a 301 or 404.

This will reduce the unnecessary work for mods/members and more quality sites would be reviewed rather than the post heap that has accumulated.

Just my thoughts though.

The problem was the big heap of sites sites (approx. 10,000) added to the Review forum on November 24. These were never checked by anyone. BIG mistake as was extensively discussed here.

I try to check every newly submitted site now. But this heap just sits there and I can't believe it isn't removed already. I just can't see any reason to keep the heap. Apparantly I'm missing some urging reason.

Still, I think you're completely right. Same applies to usernames. I think I saw the 100th "webmaster" the other day.

Again, thanks for all your hard work GJ. Very Happy

I've been working up from the bottom a few at a time as I can get to them.. But with the current indecision about the 10 review issue it's sort of pointless to dig those up at this point..
