Hmmm, can't this disappear? as far as I've understood, now anyone can post here even as guest. maybe it would be better to delete this option and let only registered members to post. this way, bots and spam would be kept away. _________________ Life's not as a box of chocolates, but more as a jar of jalapenos...what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow...

This same name keeps popping up with long lists of crap links.
How long does it take to make a decision to get rid of a bad poster, or to close the forum (this topic) to guests?
It's far better to make choices to benefit the regular, faithful participants than to choose to keep an option "just in case" it might, maybe, perhaps, cause an occasional problem with 1 editor.
I am new, so i have NO clue what I am doing! My name is James and I am just trying to look for someone to talk with! So please, if anyone wants to talk, I am here!
This guest shows up maybe once per week and posts a bunch of junk. Do you think we can FINALLY close OFFTOPIC to non-registered guest posts? The spammers post more than real people do in this topic.
At the very bottom left there is a link that says "Stop watching this topic".
I would use that before you drive yourself crazy.
I have had to use it more than once so I don't have to look at the guest spam threads anymore.
I don't see much use in using this forum if 90%+ of the time it is being used for spam.

I totally agree, that's why I ignore it most of the time - I removed the "watch topic" option the first week I was here because it's obvious only spammers use it.
Whenever I log in, I check the "discussions since your last visit" link to see who has posted in a topic I have an interest in (much more useful than "watching" a topic). Once in awhile I get lured into the "New Here" thread, thinking a new editor might have shown up. But each and every time, it's a spammer.
And often it's THE SAME ONE!!!! there's one guy who has posted at least once a week since I started 6 weeks ago.
That's the part that gets my knickers in a bunch - repeat spammers know they've got an easy place to post, but the hole hasn't been closed yet.
I collect the ip's from all guests and then tally the ones that do the most.
If they use a proxy then they can simply change their IP as many times as they like. We ban one and then they pick a new IP from a list.
At least I know this is how it works when you use software to browse the web anonymously.
Banning ip's will never be an exact science when you can ghost your real one.
Do you have anything to add about proxies and websites Josh?
