Hedir livetalk(beta) is live!

If you are wondering what it is - its a chat tool which will allow hedir community to interact with each other in real time.

Check it out here : http://www.hedir.com/livetalk/ (you will have to enter your forum login information in the login page)

P.S: This tool is in beta stage. Any feedback or bug reports will be much appreciated.

What is the current time before timeout if not chatting?
If I wanted to review a few sites and then come back to chat how long do I have before I logs out on me?
At the moment is seems kind of quick to disconnect. If there is a good reason for ths then I'll understand leaving it this way.

Damn, I thought you posting would mean you'd be in there. I still haven't seen a single person on. Could this be because I'm using firefox browser or is there really no one in there?

I'm testing a bit now, looks nice.
Made a room sandbox...
What surprises is that I had to log in twice: for livetalk and then for the forum

I wonder if I can talk to myself... Smile

- one problem already: you need flash Sad
anybody knows a chat system that does it just with HTML?

- when I logged in with IE my FF session was logged out.
well, maybe that is ok

- my room disappeared.

- I made a second user paul002 and logged in too

- now most of the time there are small windows "talking to paul***"
instead of display in the room. ???

FF got

"Welcome! You have entered [null] at 7:00 am"

There seems to be a serious issue (read: BUG) with the window "Talking to":

Correct me if I'm wrong:
If user one sees something in the room, it should be also in the room for all the others.
Instead I see it in the main window for the sending window and in the log,
but NOT in the main window of user2 (IE).
For a change it is in the log also of user2.

One more observation: the clock seems to be fixed at 0700

I keep one window open, if someone is here now...

Paul Rocken: a chat system in just HTML isn't in Real-Time.

I would stay in the chat if I were able to idle there. The chat kicks you out after an undefined amount of time. I wont be in the chat unless there is a specified time to meet someone. I'm not crazy about not being able to idle in the chat.

An IRC based chat would have been a better option using a java chat system. I could also make a downloadable chat client software for windows systems made specifically for Hedir.

Currently the session timeout period is 5 hrs.

I would like to hear more about that.

Some may be familiar with IRC.
The chat client would be a Mirc based chat client. It would be customized with all the bells and whistles having the look of a Hedir theme.

It would auto connect to the IRC network you made. Such as irc.hedir.com

You can get and idea of how the chat works by looking at a website I helped out with this.
Page with help options on how to connect http://www.equestrianpages.com/eqnet/

The chat program I made for their site specifically.
http://www.equestrianpages.com/eqnet/horsechat.exe

I added navigation within the chat program so that a browser window would open when a link was chosen.
Many addons are possible to customize it even more.

You will just have to checkout the one I made for them to get an idea of what it can do and visiting mirc.com to learn even more if you like.

Understand that mirc is an all text chat. There are no smilies and graphics to be seen. Links used in the chat are clickable and file exchange is also an option.
Users can PM each other.
Moderators can be added.
The list just goes on...
It is a lot of work to run an IRC server.
The chat you currently have may be fewer headaches in the long run. It was an idea if you are up to the challenge of having it.
