I can't wait until this social bookmarking thing is done and over with. It's an open opportunity to spam.

Social bookmarking is not all too bad. The beauty of it is that it takes a lot of bookmarks to push a link to the top. Hence it is not easy for spammers unless they have a lot of resources.

Read blackhatseo.com sometime. He uses about 50-200 different social bookmarking profiles per site he wants to push - unless it's in a competitive SEO arena, where he'll go out and use 500-1500 different profiles.

Wanna bet he's not the only one?

Melkor hit on the exact problem that I was referring to. I could easily use my clients' different networks to create profiles. I could easily come up with about 50-100 different profiles based on that alone, with different IP addresses from different ISPs, that no one would possibly be able to figure out.

The problem is that very few others see that hole.

Hmm. Can I say that Adam, you are anti-social bookmarking? I feel that it does offer a good service for me. Anything that is online is subjected to the risk of spamming. That is the sad truth.

That's a fair statement. And there are ways to spam anything, you're right.

But look at something like the Digg/del.icio.us/furl.net concept vs. that of the HEDir concept. Which is a lot more likely to get spammed? Personally, I believe with the checks in place for HEDir, the other guys are likely to.

I was a lowest level Zealot (they call themselves Zealots, so we call ourselves "Hideous" LOL). My reviews kept getting revised and "ousted". Maybe I am not good with their system. It was a good concept. Something I had quite enjoyed. At time it does take a bit of creative writing not to sound boring, which itself can be quite hard.
