Hi all,

In some of cases some users are asking to remove some of the comments should we do it (especially when he/she has corrected the error)? IMO we should delete it as we want to help webmasters and putting anything in public which may hurt their site in long run should be avoided. All do some mistakes but once corrected on community's advice should get some preferences. Our main goal is to help people find the good resources and if someone is ready to rectify the errors we should help them there.

As I always say, let the community alone decide. Looking forward for your viewpoint.

Sounds like revisionist history to me. I don't see how viewing a process of review, critique and correction can hurt a site.

No.

I've been a moderator for forums before, and.. nope, deleting history and make discussions un-happen is a bad, bad practice.

Archiving discussions after a site has been accepted and directing comments to a new thread in the related forum, sure, that's okay. But no deletions, they're against my religion.

No, unless it's something malicious or offensive. As CTPhil said, it sounds like revisionist history.

Besides, if there's an error that a webmaster made and it was fixed, it shows site improvement.

Yes I also agree there, there is nothing wrong in saying that once I did a mistake and then I improved.

A comment should only be editted or removed if it is

  • a security risk for the submitted site
  • in an abusive manner(personal attacks)
  • repeated posts
  • or ofcourse just plain spam

LeenaN: If the personal information isn't acceptable by the person it was directed to then I wouldn't have any problem deleting that portion of the post. Being that it was in the form of full name and location.

I do have one exception to this rule of posting personal information.
If the site is noted as a scam site and it could be confirmed that it was then I would leave the postings.

Example: http://www.hedir.com/groupthink/about11339-1.html

We received a very gracious note for having it here.
http://www.hedir.com/groupthink/about14008.html

I also like to keep a good thumb on how whois info is used in posts.
Quote:
By submitting a WHOIS query, you agree that you will use this data only for
lawful purposes and that, under no circumstances will you use this data to:
a) allow, enable, or otherwise support the transmission by e-mail,
telephone, or facsimile of mass, unsolicited, commercial advertising or
solicitations to entities other than the data recipient's own existing
customers; or (b) enable high volume, automated, electronic processes that
send queries or data to the systems of any Registry Operator or
ICANN-Accredited registrar, except as reasonably necessary to register
domain names or modify existing registrations.

The compilation, repackaging, dissemination or other use of this Data is
expressly prohibited without the prior written consent of Tucows.

LeenaN: I also ask that if you have a current concern then please post it here so it can be dealt with one way or the other.
Please also give the url to the problem thread or post and full explanation of the situation.
You also have the option to PM an admin if you feel it is in more of a private nature and would like to not make this situation public.

swayrs: I have no control over this part of the Hedir forums.
I would delete the spam if I had the ability.

Forgive me, there for a moment I thought I had clicked on the Disney channel.
I guess garbage like that is the risk you take when you are in the public domain...looks like somebody needs to get a life.
