have a look at http://www.googlestore.com/ then have a look at their google pagerank of 9!!!...thats higher than EBay etc etc....then if you have a look at their backlinks that are counted you will see that nearly all of them are in breach of google's own rules.

Looks like its one rule for them and another rule for us punters...

I will elaborate.....loads of backlinks for google from itself...they wont list em if you try that one....and you honestly expect me to believe that googlestore is more important in terms of rank than Ebay or Microsoft....

i love google since bulk of my visitors come from google Smile

i checked the google bls and think the ploy used by google to increase their bl (by placing a link to the googlestore from the blogger profile section) is really cheap. hey wait .. blogger belongs to google and feel its a part of their marketing campaign. i think its ok.

btw what do you feel should be the page rank instead and why?

In terms of importance of the site on the internet(I.E what page rank is supposed to be for) i would guess at around 4 or 5 at best. Especially as 90% of googlestore backlinks are what is deemed to be non-countable by google itslf in assesing page rank for other people

since it seems you are well aware of how google determines page rank of a site can you please show us the calculation on the basis of which you guessed that? i think this will justify your point as well.

well, it's their site, their SE, i would do the same in that position.......
bret is right, plus, the SERPS have been messed up lately anyhooz, PR3 sites ranking higher than PR7

I know that Google is top dog of the yard and yes they are an important SE to be a part of. However, if they break their own rules just to get their store a higher rank than eBay who has been the leader in online stores since forever, they should be sandboxed and banned from doing what they are doing from their own SE. Yes I see the point every one has made. It is their store and their SE. BUT they are abusing the page rank themselves. They want to be top dog so bad they are willing to break rules to get there and stay there. What does that say about about their ethics of doing biz on the internet????? Evil or Very Mad

I have banged my head against my computer for months to get on Google's good side and to hear this, infuriates me even more. It is a true love/hate relationship. I would love to be a part of the top ranked companies on google and at the same time I hate them for making it so hard!!

I love google for all the things they've done to make life simpler... this one though was a shocker.
Anywayz, PR is no longer the major deciding factor and googlestore does rank well below its competitors.
