But I don't rely on it to always be correct. I also use my brain to know which words are real, actually being searched for and which don't belong.
Your own brain goes a long way to decide what to use and what not to.
There is so much more involved in choosing keywords.
Every site dealing with a different subject can be totally different when choosing keywords than the last one.
One of the more common decisions to make on some sites is deciding whether to use Plural verses singular. Once again this depends on the type of keyword/phrase you are dealing with and how its most commonly used as a search.
I could go on about this forever. It's a lot easier when someone asks about a certain keyword or phrase they want to know about.
If I had it my way a good software would be
1. Type your keyword
2. It searches and returns the first 30 results for PR3 sites only and the possible addition of choosing how many +/- backlinks the site must have to be in the list.
3. It calculates all of them together and gives you a list of the keywords and how many times they were used.
I would then choose from that list and compare it to Overture.
I would also like it to compile all the pages as if they were one page and then return results as does keyworddensity.com.
I looked at the software. It seems to give a pretty good list of relevant keywords. The list also seems to be close to the order I would expect it to be in.
Not a bad software at all for a good reference.
I don't think this is a good question. Before starting your website, at least you shall know what content or service you are providing. That means the content of the site, and if you have the content, then content decides the keywords. You can't design a website based on the keywords from the keywords analysis tools.

Yes content is king but who says you can't move your other players. A proper keyword analysis can help you gain good traffic. I have done some good analysis on keywords marketing. Earlier I wrote an article called "AIM matrix for keyphrase analysis" and Hedir team distributed it at many places, you can search for it.
I was not happy with BCG representation then I wrote an article on 3x3 martix for keyphrase analysis. You might find it interseting, http://www.webmasterworld.com/libraryv4.cgi?viewforum=8 the first article titled "A Guide to Keyword Analysis".

Sorry, I disagree.
I'm in the commercial print business. It would be logical to assume that in my industry the most popular keyword would have 'print' in the phrase. 'Printing Companies', 'Commercial Printers', etc. Not so, the most popular keyword phrase is 'Business Cards'. Had I not done my keyword research early on, I would now have very poor SERPS. From client feedback over the years, it seems that many companies 'test' the water with an online supplier by purchasing a relatively inexpensive product (business cards), before committing themselves to spending on the more expensive items, such as brochures, folders etc. Thanks to the keyword research, and a homepage correctly positioned, this has proved most beneficial. _________________ Please help us to improve HEDir by reviewing some sites.
How else will a site gather more traffic.... sure obviously you would have to have an idea on what your site is about content wise.. products or services(but without knowing what people are typing in how else are you going to keep tweaking your site on an ongoing basis).... but that's the difference between SEO and Web design there altogether _________________ Web Development Cape Town
