Latest Blog Post : Is redirect.alexa.com down?

Not a too bad idea. Anyone got any experience in it? The issue I see is that you have no control over who you are linkning to? If so, you might unwittingly link to a competitor if they uses the same service.

But you are not running a commercial site then it will be useful for you. If a commercial site, think twice.

I used this service for a few days when I started out, but took the code off my site when I learned about link farms.

How is this different than link farms, which can hurt your SE results?

I'm new to all this, so forgive my ignorance.

Redhex, Fair point.... not sure about that point with competitors, haven't used it myself, a buddy of mine is currently using it, have 2 days to go before the first 30 days is up, then i will see the results of the links....

Pregan... They are ONE way links, not recips, and the are category specific, everything related to travel for example is in one category... so when it comes to links farms - which i link to anyone and anyone links to me - a Link orgy is the best way to describe it....u are not getting recips in this one and only people within your category can link to you - Relevance

I'm going to see what happens by the beginning of next week with this one with my buddies site, so what happens with the links.

Still a great idea though, especially as it is free, and new sites looking for links can get them without too much hassle

I use Free Relevant Links for many of my clients who don't mind the 5 links on their site.

Many of my clients now have 5-10 one way relevant homepage links. They have been using the free service for a few months now. Nice thing is that it is completely hands off. Makes my job much easier Very Happy

I've come across this site before but find the categories too limiting.

For instance, I'm in the print business so the nearest category for me would be 'Internet Services' which, according to the site says "Your website content can include web design, web hosting, SEO services, forums, computer hardware and software, or any internet service that helps other websites." So my site doesn't really fit this category as I would be getting a ton of irrelevant links.

PyroJunkie's site neatly fits the Entertainment category, but when you read the details: "Websites that are related to music, movies, tv, celebrities, theater, and comedy are welcome to join the entertainment vertical market. Your website must be relevant to entertainment to be accepted." it's obvious that his site would be getting many irrelevant links also.

So, unless your site is Travel, Law or Wedding-related for instance, then I don't think the site's much use at the moment, until it has enough registered users to expand the category list.

As it is pretty much set in stone that irrelevant links these days are ignored by Google, I prefer to find sites in the US that do exactly what my site does (I'm UK-based) and cross-promote from our respective homepages. Even though I've optimised my site for the UK, we still get many US-based visitors, so I can suggest a 'friend' in the US from my home page. That way, a visitor is getting a 100% relevant link, and of course it works in reverse also. I get traffic from their sites when UK-based visitors arrive there unexpectedly.
