How many of you use articles as a way of getting your site better placed in search engines?

I recently opened an articles directory and keep getting the same sort of articles from people, promoting some product or whatever, 90% with no actual benefit for the person reading it.

For the SEO company i work for we submit articles, but with actual benefits to the reader and not bombarded with outgoing links ....

Throw in some thoughts on the matter if you have any ....

I do. Sometimes or rather say mostly. It is in fact the best way for SEO.

Articles for SEO ? hmm...

Using free articles on one's site maybe ok if you are looking from visitors perspective, but not ok if you are thinking of gaining in the SERPs, IMO.

SEs are getting better all the time at detecting duplicate content and will not value pages with such content.

Also, article distribution for SEO is not going to work simply because your articles on multiple sites amounts to dulpicate pages and the links you get from those pages do not carry much value(if at all) as SEs will devalue these links.

Anyone to suggest to the contrary ?

Quality content not spammed and on relevent pages will always help SEO, backlinks are backlinks ...

This kind of content distribution is good when You first let the content be indexed on Your site. When it is first indexed on my site I'm the auther of this. Than I can allowed free distribution. Links are very important but IMO content is more. I would not provide good fresh content only for backlink.

Eliza: Using one article for one site will be the best way if you can manage it ! I am talking about getting unique content for distributing in the way you want. It surely will take time and manpower resources to create articles if you plan to distribute one article per site. If you can manage this then by all means go ahead ,it will surely help.

Also, if you can create articles for other sites then create some for your own site also. More content never hurts !
