Is Hedir slow?

I am using 512kbps Internet connection so I am not able to judge the Hedir's response time effectively. http://www.visitlab.com data claims it to be much slower than a normal site Sad .

Please let us know if it is slow, we will shift our hosting then.

Thanks,
Norah.

Yes, I have noticed the site is slow since I first came here. Well, maybe not "SLOW", but slower than it should be. I have seen at least one other person comment on this in another thread as well.

For comparison, I have a ~3Mb cable connection at home and a 10Mb fibre connection at work... So I don't think the problem is on my end.

I have noticed a slight improvement in the last day or so -- perhaps those changes the developer made.

Just out of curiosity, where (geographically) is the site hosted now?

Yes, HEDIR is slower than most websites I visit. I'm on a 4 Mb connection.

I think I will have to ask Lakhya to move the hosting to a better server.

Today I have implemented jpcache properly, so hopefully it will make the non-forum pages faster.

Yes, just noticed this myself.

Edit: Actually, it's not just the right-had bar. Even submitting messages/loading smilies is slow. Wink

Hedir was shifted to new hosting recently and had a major downtime after a few days Sad I am keeping a watch on the proceedings and will change host if needed.

Yup, I've had lots of problems too. Hedir's DNS is broken. Their authoritative servers @ asmallorange.com are returning errors when queried for Hedir's data. I got it by digging up the IP address from a site that supplies cached DNS info (and only one ISP even still had that) and putting the site directly into my HOSTS file.

BAD.

The site is sort of working for me, but all the while my progress bar is going berserk trying to contact "www.xcep.de...". I'm a little worried it might have a hemmorage.

CTPhil, are you using Mindspring by any chance? That was the only server that still had the hedir records cached when I queried it here: http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ispdns.ch?name=www.hedir.com&type=A

But I see even those are gone now...
