Google now offers free site statistics. It's called Google Analytics. I believe it's Urchin's software. So if you don't mind Google having access to your log files...(if you have the googlebar installed, they track you already)
I tried it. It is pretty decent and graphically attractive. The GUI is good. In terms of features, it has it all.
Installation was quite painful if you have a big site with multiple pages. You need to install a javascript on the pages you want to track. If you are using a CMS or shopping cart, you need to find the correct script to implement the google tracker script.
Pro:
Free, realtively easy to install, g$$gle has a comprehensive FAQ and guide to guide newbies along. You are not using your resources to track. Good GUI compared to other open source solutions.
Cons:
Paranoid fact (you want them to track you web stats?), control issue(you got no control when google might have technical issues, downtime), scalability(you cannot extent new features, maybe for the time being). That last issue is most important.
For me, I tried it out cos I am a sucker for new geeky techy stuff. Remind me of the days where I begged for my first gmail invite and play santa by sending invites to follow geeky pals. Ha. I guess some of us here went thru that stage. Gmail invites anyone? I have a 100. LOL,

Norah, is visitlab free? And how much does 500 credits last you? It seems to have an interesting concept in the credit system. Free trial with a cap on the resources used.

Have to take a look. Our current provider offers a couple of different stats packages. We've been using awStats which seems "ok," but I'd like to see what else is out there.
most of the monitoring/tracking/analytic out there are basically getting info and sorting from the server log file, so it's a bit hard to do that without adding at least a small amount of script, even if just redirecting to somewhere else.... it's is not impossible though, as our R&D is working diligently on that _________________ Sometimes you think you're crazy....
