Hey guys,
One always reads the frustrations of others, especially on SEO forums of dealing with links requests. Since about 2 weeks ago, we have a client that specifically wants recip links, so be it then.
If i go through about 100 sites in a day i'm lucky to find about 5 or 6 great sites i think would add some value to the site.
Travel sites( especially ones based here in South Africa) in my personal opinion are the worst offenders of "decieving" search engines, my personal opinion, having excessive links sections and directories of absolute no value to anyone, and at the end of the day, they might rank well in search engines, but for the links pages, what is the point?
I'm going through 260 emails today, and actually following all links, and browsing the sites...
So down to the point, what makes you press that wonderful "delete" key when looking at a link request???
My favs at the mo
Quote:
The Google PR of this site is currently 3 and our links page currently has a page rank of 2, I expect this site to become at least a PR5 within the next 6 months
that's the best
A site that has a page eg. links_43 - "delete"
Telling me about how recip improve rankings - "delete"
Spelling mistakes( if you can't even spell the word search engine, oh my) - "delete"
Explaining one way links, and then offering to return a link from some dodgy link directory setup with some link exchange software - "delete"
an email from an online account, ie, yahoo/hotmail/gmail... - "delete"
What is with the "no more than 50 links per page" and sites with links having 50 links?
Personally i would be happy only having 5 awesome links for visitors...for my travel client i have a link for diving, wine tours, luxury boat rides, sight seeing tours.... all within the surrounding area of the actual business.
So down to the point, what makes you press that wonderful "delete" key when looking at a link request???
1. here is the biggest one that makes me delete a link request.
When someone asks for a link request and my site already has a links page with a way to submit. This is the quickest way for a delete key. It only makes me think that it was automated and not personal.
2. When they tell me in great detail how it will benefit me in the Search Engine aspect. It is hard to get away from trying to sway someone by using knowledge that they may not comprehend, but by allowing the person to assume it could be in their best interest.
They should actually be talking about how well the sites would compliment each other in the way of finding good information.
3. When their links page is actually on another site other than their own.
4. link exchange software is a real no-no for me to link to someone.
5. When they have links to anyone under the sun rather than staying within their niche or area of expertise.
Email
the free mail accounts don't bother me when accepting a site for a link exchange. As long as they have an actual domain and not on a free builder site.
Spelling
They would really have to spell a lot wrong before I would deem it deleted.
Check this out and see what you think Brett. I made it awhile back so a person could find a place to add their link at. Not all of them are link partner sites.
Sadly it only works best using 2 keywords at one time.
It is Google results with a programming twist.
I have not yet received a request for links from anyone who has actually looked at my sites, figured out what the businesses are, and offered a link to something relevant.
So to me, any link request is in danger of deletion as soon as I get it. Only if they appear to have looked at my site, will I read through the entire request.
I also don't believe that having 50 or 75 or 100 links is such a good thing, even though God Google has decreed it. Too many people have gone off the deep end because they take Google too seriously. Too many people are now adding "directories" to their sites where most of the entries are irrelevant. Too many link pages are full of crap. They are of no use to the end user.
So I only link to sites that I think make sense. My sites won't have a links page full of recip links to directories - why would a user looking for a caterer in Newport Beach or a fishing trip in Colorado want to see ads for some directory? They don't.
I know this is blasphemy - but I actually have a very successful site that has (gasp) NO LINKS AT ALL!!
The link exchange I use is pretty cool (SBI value exchange) - you only get matches based on keywords you submit. The filtering of bad sites keeps only good sites in.
I only have a few reciprocal links though and quite a few links out that are relevant to the content.
I'd like to but I don't think my site will be accepted due to the 'monetization density' of it. That's fine with me but if it's OK I'd like to just hang out anyway - I quite like it here
Density is a matter of opinion, there is no set rule for how much is too much. Others may not find it to be a problem - I think you already have a Yes vote, right?
I wish I was allowed to write on these topics . _________________ http://www.idealwebtools.com/blog/orkut-banned-india/ - Orkut getting a ban in India, why? Is it fair? Politicians not liking it as some voices are raised against.
