I agree to a point.. but, and this is only my opinion, it sort of looks like a half-google.
I say half-google because it's nice and clean, but the other stuff over on the right hand side kind of clutters and cancels the effect of the simple layout..
I'm addressing aesthetics and ignoring ease of implementation when I make this suggestion but could you not make it closer to google's simplicity by removing the more "detailed" stuff from the right and top of the page and moving 3 or 4 links so that they're more visible.. (Possibly just normal text links).. i.e. Forum, Submit Site (there was a thread about this being unclear somewhere I think), bookmark, Login etc.
Just so anyone visiting with the idea of just using the directory doesn't have to concern themselves with all of the stuff over on the right hand side.. Which they might find it hard not to look at and therefore distracting.. (maybe)..

I think "et's a koind of..majc" is right. The minimalistic doesn't mix with the old top and right bar. I like the the new front but the cluttered stuff has to go. I guess that's all in the planning already. _________________ Please review some sites.
Contributing members of the month
This is more that a change. I think this is another significant and successful Friday for all of us. This is a big step towards making it useful for the casual users. This change is transforming hedir from being a plain directory to a community based search engine. This is based on Google custom search engine http://www.google.com/coop/cse/overview . Hedir is integrating its human ranking power with Google's search strength. This is a major integration at philosophical and practical level. Hedir will add the true human factor to Google engine through community review.
Let me explain how it works currently,
The sites that are added to hedir will become a part of the search engine. Thus no spammer can enter into the search even if it has a PR 10 or a million backlinks.
How will it work in near future?
I am working with some researchers on how to put the human ranking into custom engine at runtime. If one website has more community value then it should preferably have more weight (please read “mode & weight” section at http://www.google.com/coop/docs/cse/cse_file.html) . We will integrate it with a XML based upload annotation (please read http://www.google.com/coop/docs/cse/label_file.html) .
We wish Google had
As suggested by one of our member, a weighted tagging facility. Say we have a site webdesignwidget.com and for this site we should be able to put weighted tagging attributes with atleast 25 to 50 keyphrases. I will be forwarding this request to Google labs.
Example of Webdesignwidget.com Attributes
(keyphrases and its weight) Web design (A1 x B1, a number between 0 to 1, where A1 is a factor determined by the users tagging and B1 is overall community feedback factor), widget (A2 x B2, a number between 0 to 1), …. This would have helped us manage multi purpose site with weighted tagging (Hedir will be implementing weighted tagging system).
Help Hedir improve with your feedback. I am happy that finally we have taken one major step towards achieving the vision of providing true value services to casual visitors. The search is going to go better and better every day.
