Yahoo! Mail Plus has allowed alias email addresses for years. I create a new alias for every registration. If I get too much spam on that address, I just delete it.
That is good I have always tried the free mail accounts so need to try this. Looks like this thread has gone really good. _________________ http://www.idealwebtools.com/blog/orkut-banned-india/ - Orkut getting a ban in India, why? Is it fair? someone use this to create a database. and create a firefox extension against it. so that the extension will say, DO NOT GIVE THIS SPAMMER YOUR E-MAIL. that'd be proactive
Yes hedir is planning to do in a much better way. Already site advisor is doing something similar. You can explore more about hedir at http://www.hedir.com/who-weare.html

You can setup a gmail filter so that all emails to myemail+spam@gmail.com go directly to one of your label folders. You can make them bypass your normal inbox and go directly to a label you have setup, so it never need get in your way. Sweeeeet....

I just use dodgeit.com, you can give any email@dodgeit.com and see the content of the mailbox at dodgeit.com, it's free and you don't need to register anything....
If you really want to keep track of who is selling or trading your emails, spend the $10 bucks, get a domain name and park it with a registrar that allows email forwarding.
This way you can set up an email account (whatever@yourdomain.com) for each site you submit your email address to and just forward it to your actual email account. This way no one gets your actual email address. What I do is put either the site name or company as the first part. So if you have something like xmradio@yourdomain.com and you start getting stock tips or some other kind of stupid email, you know that they have traded, shared or sold your email information.
The best part is if they do sell your info, then you simply forward that email account directly to say, the web site's webmaster or maybe their sales email address.

sorry for asking, but since gmail is still in beta, i can't get a hold of those rare invites. do you guys mind posting a couple. i have cd keys to trade.
Another easy way to avoid spam is by using spambox.us to get a temporary email address that will forward mail on to you for only a set period of time, then cease to be.

You can create disposable email addresses that actually expire at spamgourmet.com (based in Eastern US) and trashmail.net (based in France). You can also use mailinator.com for non-secure email addresses (anyone can read and address, but the emails disappear after 6 hours).

EarthLink already offers "disposable" e-mail addresses for members, to use when purchasing online or visiting new sites (for example). These addresses link back to your real e-mail address, but can be deleted if spam begins to appear.

so if your signing up for samplesite you can make your email samplesite@eugenef.com and so forth. I use this to track big companies and you would be suprised who really does sell it. be carefull out there!
With Hedir's new plugin we will be having an option to write about these issues and help community avoid such companies (websites). _________________ Web 2.0 bookmarking - I think you cant make it simpler.

The method I've been using for several years also involves owning your own domain and running your own email server for it. (Actually, a friend's server handles the email using qmail, but I maintain the list for my domain myself.)
Any time I have to register for something online, I create a unique email address at that domain, log it in a text file (I keep pretty detailed records there), and just create an alias on the server that all dumps to my main real address. For personal convenience, I always use the format ####_desc, where the #### is an incrementing number. So, for example, if my first unique address was for use at the Disney Store, I use 0001_disney@mydomain.tld .
If I get spam to that address, I know where it came from, because I only use each address one place. I log the spam in that text file I mentioned, and then I decide whether to email the company about it, or just delete the alias, thus cutting off spam from that place.
This also helps sort out phishing scams. For example, if I get an email from Citibank that I think is a phishing scam, I just look at who it was addressed to. If it's the unique address I gave Citibank, there's a good chance it's legitimate; otherwise, it's a scam.
I do think Google Mail should implement this method when you have them host your domain's email (another beta project), but currently, they limit you to 100 email accounts per domain, and you have to go through the trouble of setting up a real account for them. (It's not hard to set up one account, but if you're doing it a lot, it takes time.) It would be nice to have this alias option.
BTW, I'm up to well over 200 unique addresses over more than two years (probably three or more), and I've had very, very few get spammed -- probably less than 5. Most big-name places online are actually very good about not compromising your email address. But when one does, it's sure nice to be able to turn it off quickly and easily with no impact on all the others places you've registered.

You wrote:
"If you have your own web hosting account for a domain you own and your provided has a "catch-all" e-mail account you can do this.
Lets say you register an account with Amazon.com. Enter your email address with them as "amazon.com@your_domain.whatever]"
I did this, and then redirected all the catchall mail to a gmail account and actually hit the 2 GB limit!
My ISP where I host my domain though is warning me now that all this maill traffic is making me reach my bandwidth limit.
There is so much spam pointed at my domain that I can't even delete it from my gmail account.
