A friend of mine has just built a new site with some content just so as to get indexed by Google. Actually he had plans to get on to a big launch with some unique features later the purpose of having this site now was just to build a page rank so that during the actual launch of his site he will be having lots of pre-visitors!
But the problem is that he is new in this field (me too) and not able to get any good back-links from high PR sites (because site has no PR).
He also uses Google sitemap. And he is planning to fetch some one way links for his site. What is the best method of getting one way link? How much time will it take to acquire PR?
Please suggest some remedy as my friend is in real headache to promote his site.

Your friend might want to finish the site so it has all the content it was intended to have. An unfinished site can't assure placement on a search engine.

I have yet to believe PR means anything.
If you expect instant success and results that show in less than 3 months then you will have expected too much. Just know that you will have to grow as did all sites. Get backlinks from quality sites.
I agree with GJ's comments. Don't get hung up on PR.
One way links can be garnered from online directories, of which there are hundreds. _________________ Please help us to improve HEDir by reviewing some sites.
Perform the following steps and wait for the better result:
1) Directory submission
2) Write articles and submit to article directories with resources box.
3) Participate in forums.
4) Exchange links with others - 3 way is better.
Anyway, yeh 3 way linking isn't a bad policy but one should not use this pattern for long. If you are on starting point you can use this pattern to some extent but need to be very careful.
So let me see if I understand you right. It is better to have backlinks and 3 way links (if you're careful) but PR is not so important. Do backlinks help your link popularity and the more popular you are (your site) the higher your PR is right? or wrong?

P.S. Please help! We have traffic and we get form submissions about everyday. I have relevant links on the site, I have a schedule to keep for submitting to directories and still our link popularity is low and our PR is 0 after being live for about a year now. I want out of the sandbox!
I have been on board developing the site and marketing real hard for 3 months now. The site server has changed three times before I was hired. The domain has always had some kind of data on it. One guy started it didnt market it to the best of my knowledge and the thrid party devoloper that had it wasn't bringing in results, then it changed again but was put together with an online template application and wasn't optimized. Has all the changes in the server hoping hurt the page ranking?

Here's some of the ways to get backlinks an PR
1. Create a blog in your site and submit to blog directories
2. exchange blogroll from other sites/blogs in your niche
3. create articles and submit to article directories
4. create press releases on any event you have (website launch, product launch, big sale events..etc)
5. create one of a kind articles that are worthy of linking (linkbait).
6. submit to social bookmarks (digg, technorati, reddit...etc)
7. be a guest blogger for some other blogs related to yours.
8. offer a tool in your website (ie.. webuildpages.com/cool-seo-tool/)
9. submit to dmoz
10. contribute to blog discussions by writing helpful comments (not comment spamming)
You have really provided a helpful points but I do not know why you added your point no. 9. Is it really necessary?
Actually I am saying this because one of friend submitted his site in DMOZ about 11 months back and still waiting. They didn't response anything. At least they could tell him the reason of rejection. Then he could try to improve accordingly. Now he is thinking he wasted his time for getting a link from brand directory site.
It was just a case, but now-a-days this is happening with almost every site owners. And they are complaining wherever they are getting chances.
Pretty much covers all you need to know... take a look.
PS.. don't forget, that DMOZ is not the only great IBL.... YAHOO????!!!!!
Plus an inclusion within HEDIR counts as well by the way.... it's a great link to have. _________________ Web Development Cape Town
