Really well, according to people who have contacted me after using the site.
I was thinking of doing the same project the Center for Democracy and Technology did back in 2003, and getting as many volunteers as possible to do it. Judging from my own lack of spam and other people's messages to me, I suspect the munging works equally as well now in 2007, even though they predicted it would work less (since, obviously, spammers get smarter and figure out how to get around munging). _________________ Contact Table Generator Email address munger

signature link indeed. They mess up a forum and turn it into an advertising haven for spammers.
Personally, I don't like them and for them to be effective, you will need 1000's of them to be worth it. That's a LOT of posts to type for the tiny return you'll get.
Saves time if you put them in twice though does it
By the way what does anyone think of this new issue of Google wanting people to report paid links? - and what for? _________________ Devon Business Directory
Paid links are like paid ads. Money makes the world move. Unless Google give free ads, they are nothing there can do to paid links. Maybe the PhD in google are too idealistic?
Anyway for links and sig, the more the merrier. Even if search engine dun index them, sig links are a form of publicity. I believe if you are a good contributor in any forum, chances are there are some people who will be interested to know about you and your site. And that is how you get new visitors. Not a lot, but it helps.
We are in the forum for the discussion and intellect exchange. Not for back links. And self promotion can never go out of fashion. Unless it is spam that is.
I think it certainly can't hurt to have a signature link. I have noticed a few Hedir members visiting my site on occasion. However, for some reason the signature on all my old Hedir posts seems to have recently vanished into thin air.

Yeh I can see that too. Anyway I am forwarding it to the tech people. They will sort out the problem soon. Please allow us sometime.
Sorry for the inconvenience

Hi Everyone,
In regards to the question of sig links in forums being useful or not, I think they help. Maybe not a lot, but I think personal advertising works (as long as it's not spam and it's relevant to the topic at hand). I am on my way to an all day workshop today, as a matter of fact, on this very subject. I will probe the instructors for as much information as I can and will report back here with what I've learned.
If it's your own site I'd say go for it, but with your customers' sites you also need to watch what you say in case they search for themselves at inconvenient times and find it. _________________ Devon Business Directory
