I think he refers to the fact that search engine spiders show signature links in forums as results, meaning that Google for example sees them as backlinks.
but sell them? well, I'm lost here.... _________________ Life's not as a box of chocolates, but more as a jar of jalapenos...what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow...

But, maybe, and I repeat maybe, only members, like writergrrrl, with a lot of good reviews can rent the signature link.
This could be a incentive to review.
Exemple:
1 company wants to make advice using the signature links of a member.
3 or 4 members rent their signature link
the company chooses writergrrrl because she has 219 good posts
Interesting idea. I think it is worth pursuing. From what I've heard from GoogleJunky lately, there are not enough people doing reviews, and I think it is worthwhile to explore whatever incentives are available.
But this idea requires some administering, so it's important to think it through to make sure it isn't just adding more work for those already working
Drawing on my former corporate experiences - incentives include ways to earn money, recognition, and tangible gifts (t-shirts, mugs, etc with the directory logo on it?)
The point system already has built into it the ability to earn some money with Adsense. I haven't been here long enough to find out if it is worthwhile though.
Renting signature links is another money-making option.
Recognition - some directories identify an "editor of the month" or "editor owned site of the month" and post a link or banner to that editor's site of choice for the month. Some also offer a small $ award.
Contests are good for recognition, as well as good for starting a feeling of friendly competition among reviewers. Prizes can be points that can be used for something (isn't there something already in place where a reviewer can earn points then use them to "buy" a fast review?)
Gifts are great - I have a JoeAnt t-shirt and one from Skaffe, both earned through contests and being a top reviewer. Logo imprinted items are not that costly (I have a client in the business if you want a recommendation) and sometimes people will work harder for a $3 coffee cup than they will for real money
I'm trying to learn some Romanian and it's difficult.
I think I can help with that, if you are really interested. PM me with details on what you exactly want

As always, I liked the idea given by Francesco. IMO possibility of getting rent for signature links depends on the reputation of the member in the forum. I think it will provide a way to get a supply of coffee or beer while working at Hedir.
I am also for it, let me know if I can provide some help in this regards. May be some day Francesco will invite me for a discussion with caffè corretto or caffè doppio. Btw, do we need some guidelines for it?
