Hedir Review : How to construct the url extension??

Could anyone shed some light on the fact that how one should construct the url extension?

example: http://www.hedir.com/groupthink/asset/index.html

OR

http://www.hedir.com/groupthink/Asset/index.html

I am struggling over the case sensitivity. Whether it will be in caps or in smalls and why?

I suggest always using lowercase. According to my undergrad html prof four years ago, stuff after the .com/ is case-sensitive, and that it's a new thing that some browsers let you type caps and the browser (or maybe the server?) figures out what you meant.

I know people tend to type lowercase, and always doing lowercase will help them and you not forget to capitalize that A.

I run a hosting company on Linux servers. Upper and lower case makes a difference, so I do almost everything in lower case to avoid mistakes.

Our marketing guy has a set of rules, first letter of each important word is captal ie United-Kingdon-and-Immigration.aspx, I thought as long as you used the same rules everywhere it was okay, ie if the link above was used on page it had to be exaclty the same?

Does lower casing the URLs really make that much difference?
What sorts of things does it have an affect on?

Hi,

we have similar discussion with domain name here. There are some common rules we all follow while selecting domain name. Most of the rules we apply for the urls too.

Its obvious that we put more emphasis on keywords for constructing url, but too much staffing of them can harm in SEO. Its better to avoid more than one hyphen (-) in url, but I must consider sometime its required. Regarding uppercase and lowercase, all server do not support that. However as url plays a important role in SEO, so some extra care is required while generating them. Smile
