I opt for “Niche” as it provides more specific information. And search engine gives more weight than “General”. Also users on net always search for specific details. _________________ Looking for Soccer information - just visit my blog.
Definitely niche. Far too many sites running a general directory, usually for no purpose other than to stick Adsense on every page. _________________ Please help us to improve HEDir by reviewing some sites.

I like Niche. Mine is a niche directory. IT is more fun as niche because you know what you want and it is your passion. General is like you think you know everything but you end up knowing nothing really...
but I still prefer General as it brings lot of new submission everyday
Yes, but how many of those submissions are high quality? I'll bet 99% of them are spammy submissions of affiliate sites. I don't know if you'd get fewer junk submissions with a niche directory, but less volume = less junk to wade through.
Also, there is an abundance of little general directories cropping up and as was pointed out, their purpose is not to help people find things - their purpose is to run Adsense. How many little directories are needed?
- I don't use general directories at all because I know they do not contain enough sites to be useful.
- Once in a while I'll use a niche directory because I believe it might contain some good sites I might not find using a search engine.
At least niche is targeted and the right traffic is visiting. You don't get that with a general all-purpose site.
Eg: Visitors want a certain type of info, and dislike wasting time on searches that don't produce fast results. Advertisers want good exposure that converts a visitor from the engine to their website. If the engine can't do this, the visitor never makes it to the client site and the client can't make a sale.
Pretty obvious I know - but most important.
